Food Security & Agriculture
The Ministry of Economic Development has formulated a policy framework in 2022 for the economic perspective of food security in Curaçao. This policy framework provides both the status of food production in Curaçao as the current food imports and the strategic economic policy goals that we have in mind for the coming years as the leading points of our policy.
This policy framework serves as a framework for all the activities that will be carried out by our Ministry to achieve real growth of the agricultural sector in Curaçao together with all actors involved.
Food Security is a complex concept. It not only entails the commitment of each country to ensure that there is always sufficient food of high nutritional value available for the population, but also includes the accessibility of food on a household level and the country’s resilience to environmental factors that can influence food availability.
An important aspect of food security is its stability over a longer period of time. Food security is therefore strongly linked to combating poverty, job creation, health, nature conservation and strengthening the country’s resilience to the effects of climate change and economic resilience.
