Creative Industry
Introduction
Creative industries have great potential to generate economic value, foster innovation and contribute to the well-being of people engaged in the sector. Film, music, digital design, new media, and software are just a few of the wide range of subsectors that fall under the umbrella of the creative industries.
The creative industries sector can serve as a catalyst for social, technological, and economic change that leverage people’s creative energy and resources.
The Creative Industries are marked as one of the priority sectors within Curaçao’s National Export Strategy (NES) and therefore has its own assessment document that will spearhead the development of the total of the creative industries.
This NES for the Creative Industries identifies 3 key subsectors that have strong potential for development and export. They are music, film, and marketing, communications and web design.
As one of the actions stipulated by the NES, the Ministry of Economic development recently launched the Curaçao Creative Industries Committee (CCIC). The CCIC is a public/private committee that will oversee the implementation of the NES for the creative industries.
The subsector film has had a head start with the establishment of a Curaçao Film Office (CFO) mid 2017. Under the guidance of the Film Commissioner, the goal of the CFO is to develop the local film infrastructure and promote the Island as a filming destination for International productions. Subsequently the film sector is currently the only sector with its own policy document.
As a representative for the film sector on the Island the CFO is a member of the Association for Film Commissioners International (AFCI). The CFO manages its own website and Facebook page. For more information visit www.curacaofilmoffice.com.
Most recently, the Curaçao Music Support & Export office was introduced during the Curaçao Export Week 2024.
